Maria Theresa Thalers dated 1780

Silver 1 Thaler, 40 mm, 27.4 grams
Obverse:  Maria Theresa
Reverse Crowned double-headed eagle with arms on chest.
Dated 1780.

When Maria Theresa was alive, the Austrian taler was an important trade coin. It was so important that Maria Theresa talers continued to be struck even after Maria Theresa's death. Even though the talers continued to be struck, the date was not changed and remained 1780. They continued to be struck up to modern times, at various mints mostly in Europe. These mints include Birmingham, Bombay, Brussels, London, Paris, Rome and Utrecht, in addition to the Habsburg mints in Günzburg, Hall, Karlsburg, Kremnica, Milan, Prague, and Vienna. The coin has been used as official currency in many areas particularly in Africa and the Middle east, and continues to be popular to this day for its bullion value. Approximately 400 million coins were produced from 1780 to the current day. So if it is dated 1780 but looks like it was struck recently, then it probably was.
