O:  Liberty standing with shield.
R:  Coat of arms of Peru, "LIMAE" monogram (mintmark), "8R" (denomination), and "J.M." (mint assayer's initials).
Dated 1826.
Lima mint.
Bolivar ruled greater Peru from February 1824 to January 1827.

 


Columbia, Silver 1 real, 19.5 mm
O:  Fasces between crossed cornucopias.
R:  "PN" (mintmark), "1 REAL" (denomination), and "R.U." (mint assayer's initials), all within wreath.
Dated 1829.
Popayan mint.
Bolivar ruled greater Columbia from 1826 to 1830.

The Latin American revolutionary Simon Bolivar was the single most important person in the struggle against Spanish authority in what became known as the Bolivarian countries (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia).  He is called "The Liberator."
